Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Med-Surg Charge Nurse to join our team at North Mississippi Health Services. As a Charge Nurse, you will be responsible for providing safe, quality patient care through the nursing process, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations, and maintaining effective communication with the multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide safe, quality patient care through the nursing process
  • Ensure compliance with policies and regulations
  • Maintain effective communication with the multidisciplinary team
  • Respond to rapidly changing patient needs
  • Handle staffing assignments
  • Act as a liaison between patients and physicians or case management
Clinical Practice

The Charge Nurse at North Mississippi Health Services is responsible for using the nursing process to provide safe, quality patient care and document accordingly. This includes working to ensure compliance with all NMHS policies and requirements as directed by the Nurse Manager and Educator.

Education

The Charge Nurse must provide patient/family education and act as a resource for existing staff and new employees. This includes attending the Preceptor class to ensure proper training of new employees.

Communication

The Charge Nurse must maintain communication with multidisciplinary team members to provide holistic care to the patient. This includes leading daily huddles on each unit to ensure proper assignments and identify team members for the shift.

Customer Relations

The Charge Nurse must project a caring, friendly, and helpful image to patients and other customers. This includes utilizing the patient's communication board (white board) to identify name, date, goals, other staff, and procedures or tests for the day to keep patients and families informed.

Self-Development

The Charge Nurse must maintain competency by staying informed of changing trends in the nursing practice. This includes attending annual review and unit specifics within the department.

Regulatory Knowledge

The Charge Nurse must comply with regulatory and accrediting agency requirements. This includes maintaining a current AHA CPR Certification and ACLS, PALS, TB certification, or certification if required by the department.

Job Requirements
  • Must be licensed to practice as a RN in the state of MS
  • Must complete RN orientation and approved unit specific checklist
  • Must maintain a current AHA CPR Certification
  • Must maintain department requirements for continuing education and any specific unit requirements to provide appropriate age-specific care
