Maternal Health Specialist

As a Maternal Health Specialist at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality, patient-centered care to women during the antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods. You will work independently to manage the care of low-risk patients, while co-managing higher-risk patients under the supervision of a physician. Your expertise will be essential in providing standard maternity care and counseling to women, adhering to the standards of the American College of Nurse Midwives and the State Nurse Practice Act.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate patients' general and obstetrical health status, determining pregnancy status, duration of gestation, presentation, and position of the fetus, as well as fetal heart rate and whether all statistics are within normal limits.
- Obtain an accurate medical, obstetrical, gynecological, and social history, as well as an account of the course of the present pregnancy.
- Perform all appropriate physical examinations, including the pap smear, breast examination, and pelvic examination, and record all findings on the patient's chart.
- Consult with the physician regarding any abnormal findings, order lab and medical imaging studies as needed, and institute preventative measures and detect abnormal conditions.
- Teach, counsel, and guide individual members regarding their individual health care, and teach antepartum classes as needed in individual facilities.
- Evaluate maternal general health status and well-being.
Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Certified Nurse Midwife (California) required at hire.
- Registered Nurse License (California) required at hire.
- National Provider Identifier required at hire.
- Basic Life Support required at hire.
- Drug Enforcement Administration Registration within 12 months of hire.
- Nurse Midwife National Certification required at hire from American Midwifery Certification Board.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Three (3) years of experience as a C.N.M. with in the last three (3) years preferred.
- Current and valid California Nurse-Midwife furnishing certification (including any needed education in pharmacy) and didactic education and supervised clinical experience in third trimester limited obstetric ultrasound preferred OR to be obtained at midwife's expense within one year of hire.
Work Environment:
- Variable shift, working days: Sun - Sat, Variable days.
- Working Hours Start: 12:00 AM
- Working Hours End: 11:59 PM
