Work Schedule:
Day Shift: Sunday - Wednesday, 7 AM - 5 PM. Availability for weekends and holidays is required.
Role Summary:
The primary objective of this role is to assist the Emergency Room veterinarians with various treatments and procedures, ensuring the highest standard of care for our patients. The Certified Veterinary Technician must exhibit meticulous attention to detail and uphold rigorous cleanliness and care standards. Effective communication with colleagues is essential for ensuring overall accuracy and satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide immediate care to incoming emergencies and hospitalized patients, including but not limited to:
- Triage and patient assessment, vital data collection, intravenous catheter placement, blood draws, intubation, injection administration, radiology, laboratory work, and basic anesthesia support.
- Administer first aid as necessary.
- Monitor and document the status of critical and intensive care patients.
- Offer stabilization support (temperature, blood pressure, fluid resuscitation, etc.) to incoming emergencies.
- Accurately document and communicate patient information in medical records.
- Relay patient status and changes to the attending veterinarian thoroughly.
- Maintain a clean and comfortable environment for all patients.
- Set up and manage equipment as required, with knowledge of monitoring and diagnostic tools.
- Safely restrain patients as needed.
- Record medical histories and data accurately.
- Prepare and administer medications and treatments as directed by veterinarians.
- Collect, prepare, label, and test laboratory specimens as necessary.
- Assist with patient euthanasia and aftercare of remains promptly.
- Provide basic client education on nutrition, home care, zoonotic diseases, medication administration, and post-operative care as directed by a veterinarian.
- Replenish supplies and maintain cleanliness in the ICU, treatment areas, exam rooms, laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, and isolation units.
- Mentor less experienced staff on proper policies, procedures, technical skills, and medical knowledge.
- Cross-train to assist in various hospital areas as needed.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a veterinary setting.
- Ability to perform all key responsibilities of a Technician Assistant.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and sanitation practices.
- Understanding of commonly used medical terminology and equipment.
- Proficiency in calculating dosages and injections accurately.
- Familiarity with CPR and rescue breathing techniques.
- Ability to follow directions from various personnel in diverse situations.
- Capability to anticipate the needs of veterinarians and nurses, demonstrating initiative.
- Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good personal grooming and hygiene standards.
- Team-oriented mindset and commitment to fostering a positive workplace culture.
- Tact and diplomacy when interacting with clients facing various challenges.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Physical capability to kneel, bend, and lift animals weighing up to 50 lbs onto treatment tables without assistance.
Educational Background:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor’s degree and/or Technician Certification preferred.

- Compensation is commensurate with experience and skill level, starting at $25/hr for Credentialed Experienced Technicians.
