Job Title: Roadway Chief Inspector

Atlas Technical Consultants is seeking a highly experienced Roadway Chief Inspector to join our team. As a key member of our infrastructure project team, you will be responsible for ensuring the quality and safety of our construction projects.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team of inspectors in conducting complex and routine construction inspections of roadways and materials to ensure compliance with construction contract specifications.
  • Supervise and train other inspectors in conducting inspections, contract document control, and reporting.
  • Perform materials tests in the field and laboratory for concrete, hot mix, soils, aggregates, and other materials.
  • Assist the Project Manager or Project Engineer as needed.
Requirements:
  • 20 years of experience in highway construction inspection and materials testing.
  • Experience managing project inspection, material testing, and environmental compliance.
  • Able to provide oversight, lead a team of inspectors, and communicate staffing needs to the Project Manager.
  • Must have a proven history of working well with contractors and owners to accomplish construction tasks.
  • Proficient in providing work zone traffic control and ensuring a safe work zone.
  • Proficient in inspecting earthwork and roadway base construction.
  • Proficient in providing inspection of hot mix asphalt and concrete paving operations.
  • Experience with inspecting drainage structure construction.
  • Experience in the installation and relocation of utilities.
  • Must have considerable knowledge and experience working with concrete, soils, base, and asphalt pavements.
  • Experience reading and comprehending plans, specifications, shop drawings, and test procedures.
  • Experience providing contract administration and field reporting.
  • Assist with and prepare contract modification documents (change orders).
  • Must have experience handling record-keeping duties in conjunction with the recordkeeper and project manager.
  • Experience training inspection staff and ability to develop SOP for in-house inspection and testing protocols.
  • Proficient in communicating with the Project Manager, staff, contractor, and other stakeholders.
  • Conduct project meetings with contractors, project teams, and other project stakeholders.
  • Must have a good driving record and a valid driver's license.
Technical Requirements:
  • Experience reviewing and providing input for critical path scheduling.
  • Must have experience using Microsoft Word and Excel spreadsheets. Knowledge of Bluebeam (or similar PDF editor) is preferred.
  • Must have or be able to quickly obtain certification in ACI Field, Level 1B, SB102, and SWPPP.
  • Knowledge of TxDOT specifications is preferred.
Other Requirements:
  • Must relocate to the San Antonio, Texas area.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time.
  • Must be willing to work either day or night shifts.
  • Must be willing to work "off hours" when needed and up to 60 hours per week as needed.
