GENERAL OVERVIEW: The Folder Gluer Technician is tasked with operating and managing gluing machines while acquiring comprehensive knowledge of all responsibilities associated with the Gluer Operator role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Loads materials into machines after setup is complete.
  • Conducts regular inspections during production to verify that cartons are folding correctly and that glue application is both consistent and precise.
  • Oversees identification markers on multi-order tasks to avert item mix-ups.
  • Monitors the Leary Detection system to guarantee product quality.
  • Identifies any non-compliant materials promptly.
  • Configures and operates Label-Aire equipment for jobs requiring tagging or labeling.
  • Responsible for both repair and preventive maintenance of gluing machines, either independently or in collaboration with maintenance staff.
  • Executes line clearance in accordance with established Quality Operating Procedures (QOP).
  • Reviews job specifications and special instructions, and inspects approved samples to ascertain gluing and folding requirements.
  • Adjusts the gluing machine to meet specifications, ensuring correct folding, gluing, and other operational parameters.
  • Determines the appropriate number of cartons to pack per case to maintain consistent counts.
  • Inspects the glue pot and performs cleaning as necessary; checks glue levels in both pots and drums for extrusion systems.
  • Configures and tests the barcode scanner to ensure functionality.
  • Sets up the Leary Detection system (glue scanner) and verifies all functions for quality assurance.
  • Initiates production runs efficiently.
  • Collaborates closely with management to ensure optimal staffing and scheduling for shifts.
  • Trains new hires in trainee roles and existing operators on additional equipment.
  • Assists fellow operators during setup and adjustments.
  • Diagnoses machine issues and identifies causes of non-compliant products.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent G.E.D. is required.
  • Previous experience as a Glue Operator is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing setting or a combination of education and experience.
  • Proficient computer skills for data entry and machine operations.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities to troubleshoot gluing machines and assist others.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow both written and verbal instructions.
  • Effective communication skills to monitor and guide team members in their responsibilities.
  • Extensive knowledge of finishing machinery is essential.
  • High mechanical aptitude to perform basic to advanced setups on finishing equipment.
  • Adherence to established QOP/WI is crucial.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on quality.
  • Capacity to stand for extended periods while operating gluers, with repetitive tasks involved.
  • Excellent vision is necessary.
  • Ability to leverage technical expertise to identify and implement process improvements.
  • Capable of working independently while achieving high production yields.
