Position Overview:

The role of the Vascular X-ray Technologist transcends typical job responsibilities. This position involves executing a range of technical procedures utilizing ionizing radiation and other energy forms. The technologist is expected to exercise independent judgment, demonstrating creativity and initiative to meet the needs of physicians and patients alike. Customer Engagement:

Image Production:
  • Execute all tasks related to imaging procedures accurately.
  • Select appropriate techniques to produce high-quality images.
Assistance in Care Delivery:
  • Prepare and assist in the administration of contrast media.
  • Recognize and respond to life-threatening situations appropriately.
  • Facilitate patient transport and transfers with care.
  • Support the use of specialized equipment as needed.
  • Assume Lead Technologist responsibilities in their absence.
  • Guide and mentor students and support staff to ensure quality care.
Film Processing:
  • Manage film processing to eliminate artifacts and ensure quality.
  • Assist darkroom personnel when necessary.
  • Ensure timely transfer of films and records post-exam.
Equipment Maintenance:
  • Conduct daily inspections and maintenance of all equipment.
  • Report any damaged equipment for corrective action.
  • Secure all equipment properly when not in use.
Continuous Learning:
  • Engage in ongoing education and professional development.
  • Seek additional resources and information as needed.
  • Participate in sterile technique training.
Calibration and Safety:
  • Perform calibration tests to ensure accuracy.
  • Follow proper equipment warm-up procedures.
Radiation Safety:
  • Implement radiation protection measures as per standards.
  • Utilize collimation devices to minimize radiation exposure.
  • Inquire about pregnancy status for female patients of childbearing age.
Documentation:
  • Ensure accurate identification of all films as per policy.
  • Document exams performed promptly.
  • Provide comprehensive information on exam requests.
  • Maintain timely documentation of patient care and charges.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Complete special projects as assigned.
  • Inform management of potential issues before they escalate.
  • Notify Lead Technologist upon arrival in the department.
Qualifications:

1 year of experience in X-ray, Cath Lab, or specialized radiology training.

Licenses and Certifications:

Radiologic Technologist license by the Louisiana State Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners.
Cardio/Vascular Interventional Radiology Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist.
American Heart Association, BLS.
