Job SummaryExcela Health is seeking a skilled Paramedic to join our team in a casual capacity. As a Paramedic, you will provide basic and advanced life support and emergency pre-hospital care to individuals in emergency situations.
Key Responsibilities- Provide ALS or BLS patient care in accordance with approved standing orders and protocols, department policies, and online medical command.
- Act as a patient advocate and practice good communication techniques to keep patients and families informed regarding their care provision.
- Complete ALS (Paramedic) or BLS (EMT) skills lab, CPR, and continuing education credits as required to maintain medical command and/or certification.
- Operate department vehicles in a safe and lawful manner, reporting traffic violations and other infractions to supervisors.
- Respond to emergencies or calls for assistance in a timely manner, coordinating responses with EMS staff, hospital staff, patients, and family, and outside agencies.
- Document patient care on the ambulance trip sheet accurately and legibly, collecting and documenting required paperwork for patient billing and record-keeping purposes.
- Inspect assigned vehicles and equipment, performing station duties to ensure equipment and supplies are available and in working order.
- Wash and disinfect medical equipment and emergency medical vehicles in accordance with appropriate standards.
- Arrange the scheduling of ambulances and vans as requested and necessary.
- Report and document any concerns, issues, or events that are undesired or have the potential to escalate.
- High School Diploma, GED, or higher level of education.
- Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liability of nursing practice.
- Ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience.
- One to two years of ambulance service experience.
- Phlebotomy and/or EKG skills.
- Computer skills.
- BTLS or PHTLS certification.
- NIMS course completion.
- Certified by the PA Department of Health as an EMT-Paramedic.
- Must receive and maintain authorization for medical command from the ambulance service medical director.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) approved curriculum of the American Heart Association (CPR and AED) program required.
- Act 33 with renewal.
- Act 34 with renewal.
- Act 173 FBI Clearance with renewal.
- Current AHA for the Professional Rescuer.
- Current ACLS.
- Current PALS.
- Current CPI training.
- Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License (if out of state hire, current Department of Motor Vehicle record report required and obtain PA Current Driver License within 30 days of hire).
- This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.
- Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on-call, etc.).
- Travel may be expected locally between Independence Health locations.
