Job Summary

The Correctional Counselor II (Supervisor) Grievance Coordinator position is responsible for processing, screening, and tracking inmate grievances, as well as supervising subordinate Office of Grievances support staff. The Grievance Coordinator will oversee the delegation of inmate grievances to appropriate departments for completion of grievance responses at the Institutional Level for the Hiring Authority's signature, consistent with the rules and regulations outlined in the California Code of Regulations (CCR) and the Department Operations Manual (DOM), Article 53, Inmate/Parolee (Grievances) Appeals, Section.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process, screen, and track inmate grievances
  • Supervise subordinate Office of Grievances support staff
  • Oversee the delegation of inmate grievances to appropriate departments
  • Ensure grievance responses are completed at the Institutional Level for the Hiring Authority's signature
  • Adhere to rules and regulations outlined in the California Code of Regulations (CCR) and the Department Operations Manual (DOM)
Requirements
  • Completion of educational courses as specified in the Class Specification
  • Ability to plan, organize, and direct the work of others
  • Ability to apply the principles and practices of counseling and guidance
  • Ability to interpret test results
  • Ability to evaluate sociological, psychological, psychiatric, and vocational findings and make recommendations
