Colonial Healthcare, part of the Optum family of businesses, is seeking a skilled Medical Assistant to join our team. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting our healthcare professionals in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist patients with information, services, and assistance
  • Administer medications and injections
  • Perform venipuncture for lab draw
  • Conduct EKGs, Spirometry, Flu, and Strep Tests
  • Maintain medical supplies inventory and perform preventive maintenance on medical equipment
  • Verify patient information by interviewing patients, recording medical history, and confirming the purpose of the visit
  • Prepare patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests, taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature, and reporting patient history summaries
  • Save doctors' time by assisting with office procedures
  • Secure patient information and maintain patient confidentiality
  • Process referrals
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations
  • Keep supplies ready by inventorying stock, placing orders, and verifying receipt
  • Keep equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional publications
  • Serve and protect the practice by adhering to professional standards, facility policies and procedures, and federal, state, and local requirements
  • Enhance practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or completion of an equivalent adult education program
  • Medical Assistant diploma, technical certificate, or certification
  • 3+ years of experience performing critical skills of a medical assistant after on-the-job training
  • Active medical assistant certification (CMA, CCMA, NCMA, or RMA)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • CPR certification
  • 3+ years of clinical experience in a Family Medicine setting
  • Experience working as a Medical Assistant or EMT
  • Experience with electronic medical record software
  • Experience performing medical back office tasks, including obtaining vital signs, injections/immunizations, phlebotomy, urinalysis, and administering medications
  • Experience performing medical front office tasks, including scheduling appointments, prior authorizations, medication refills, and referrals
