Job Summary

The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) is a vital member of the healthcare team, responsible for administering anesthesia in both inpatient and outpatient settings to patients of all health complexities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to achieve common goals for patient care, safety, and welfare.
  • Foster high levels of confidence and satisfaction among patients and staff, while meeting and exceeding compliance standards.
  • Provide anesthetic services within five general categories, including pre-anesthesia evaluation and preparation, anesthesia induction, maintenance, and emergence, post-anesthesia care, peri-anesthetic and clinical support functions, and emergency response techniques.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive anesthesia plan of care for patients requiring local, regional, general, and monitored anesthesia, both inside and outside the Operating Room (OR) suite.
  • Ensure anesthetic services delivered throughout the facility are of the highest quality, promoting patient safety, satisfaction, and improving outcomes and efficiencies.
  • Function as a resource for staff education and serve as a preceptor and adjunct clinical faculty for healthcare trainees rotating through the facility.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based practices essential to delivering the highest quality anesthesia care.
  • Prescribe appropriate preoperative, intra-operative, and postoperative orders and medications.
Requirements
  • U.S. citizenship (non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy).
  • Urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Selective Service Registration for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Pass a pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program and the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination program.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a master's or doctoral degree in nurse anesthesia and be licensed to practice as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia.

Basic Certification by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA) or an equivalent Nurse Anesthetist certification recognized by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthetist Education Programs (COA) is required.

Advanced Practice Nurse (Certified Nurse Anesthetist) II and III qualifications include experience in the administration of anesthetics, ability to plan, administer, and manage anesthesia for complex surgical procedures, and participation in assignments that are technically challenging.
