The Bereavement Specialist plays a crucial role in providing compassionate support to families experiencing loss. This position involves delivering educational resources and counseling services tailored to the needs of hospice patients and their families.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Offers bereavement education and counseling to hospice patients and their families, responding to requests for assistance based on thorough assessments.
  • Organizes and oversees the hospice grief support program, including regular grief support groups.
  • Develops and implements bereavement programming that addresses both hospice and community educational needs.
  • Coordinates memorial services for families of patients, held biannually.
  • Ensures accurate documentation in compliance with regulatory standards for bereavement support lasting one year following the patient's death.
  • Creates educational materials and curricula for grief support groups.
  • Delivers services that align with the standards set by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization for bereavement programs.
  • Develops assessment tools to identify individuals in need of bereavement support, adhering to regulatory guidelines.
  • Recruits, trains, and provides ongoing support to bereavement volunteers.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor's degree in social work, marriage and family therapy, or mental health counseling.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in healthcare, with specialized training in bereavement and loss.
  • Certification or licensure by the State of Wisconsin at the highest level permitted by the individual's qualifications.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to fifty (50) pounds independently.
  • Job responsibilities may involve exposure to bloodborne pathogens during the execution of duties.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Must be available to work scheduled hours, with potential changes based on patient and business needs, including overtime, on-call shifts, and weekends.
  • Engages with team members and other healthcare professionals regularly.
