Job Summary

The University of Mississippi is seeking a skilled and experienced Painter II to join our team as an assistant to the paint shop foreman. This is a critical role that requires a high level of expertise in painting and finishing techniques, as well as excellent communication and leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Painting and Finishing: Assist the paint shop foreman in completing various campus paint jobs, including painting buildings, areas, and equipment, and hanging vinyl and decorative wall coverings.
  • Surface Preparation: Prepare surfaces for painting, including finishing, sheetrock, patching walls and ceilings, and gathering materials needed to complete jobs.
  • Leadership and Supervision: Provide technical guidance and direction to lower-rated personnel, and supervise the work of lower-classified personnel as needed.
  • Maintenance and Refreshing: Maintain and refresh painted surfaces as assigned, and perform similar or related duties as required.
Requirements
  • Education: Graduation from a standard four-year high school or equivalent (GED).
  • Experience: Three (3) years of experience related to the above-described duties.
  • Licensure: Must possess a valid driver's license.
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent exposure to paint fumes, dust, and other hazardous materials. The ability to work at heights and in confined spaces is also required.
