The Medical Equipment Specialist - Operating Room is a critical role at NYC Health + Hospitals, responsible for ensuring the proper functioning, maintenance, and availability of equipment used in the operating room. This position plays a vital role in optimizing patient care and safety by ensuring the reliable operation of critical medical equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain and manage comprehensive inventory of operating room equipment, including but not limited to Operating room procedural tables, procedural back tables, cautery machine, sed machine, and any other medical equipment.
- Responsible for obtaining, organizing, and moving necessary wheeled equipment for surgical cases, including OR table swaps and set-ups.
- Daily inspect, test, and calibrate equipment to ensure proper functioning and adherence to quality standards for all operating room locations.
- Responsible for daily delivery and assembly of equipment needed for all operating room locations.
- Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to assess equipment needs and ensure appropriate equipment is available for scheduled procedures.
- Collaborate with the Biomedical department in developing and implementing preventive maintenance schedules to minimize equipment downtime and maximize efficiency.
- Communicate effectively with the Biomedical department to coordinate repairs, installations, and equipment maintenance.
- Conduct weekly inventory check of all operating room equipment.
- Responsible for keeping equipment storage room organized.
- Responsible for compiling monthly Excel spreadsheet of all operating room equipment and submit report via email to supervisor and Director of Nursing.
- Make daily returns of unneeded equipment to the appropriate location, wiping down the equipment prior to storage and between patient use.
- Report broken and malfunctioning equipment to the Biomedical department via email and follow-up on equipment repairs.
- Keep accurate records of equipment maintenance, repairs, and service history. Report the records monthly via email to supervisor and Director of Nursing.
- High school diploma or its educational equivalent, preferably including one (1) year in electronic equipment repair, shop, general science, physics, and completion of a course in electronic equipment repair and medical equipment repair in vocational, associate degree, trade, or armed service school.
- Five (5) years of satisfactory, full-time, paid experience as a Medical Equipment Repair Technician for installation, repair, and preventive maintenance of medical equipment, three (3) years of which must have been in a responsible supervisory or administrative capacity.
- Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in Biomedical Technology, Biomedical Engineering Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology, or related discipline.
- Three (3) years of experience servicing a broad-range of clinical/patient care equipment, devices, and network medical systems in a hospital or healthcare facility.
- Three (3) years of satisfactory, full-time, paid experience as a Medical Equipment Specialist or equivalent type of experience.
- A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience.
