Compensation Structure

The salary range for this position is between $159,330 and $245,544, depending on experience and qualifications. Specific ranges include:

  • $159,330 - $204,636 Annually for the SES.3 level
  • $191,220 - $245,544 Annually for the SES.4 level

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Power Grid Engineer to spearhead research initiatives focused on the analysis of electrical power grid systems, emphasizing resilience and reliability. This role involves engaging in business development for the Cyber and Infrastructure Resilience (CIR) program within the Global Security (GS) Principal Associate Directorate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead intricate research projects, balancing competing priorities while employing advanced analytical skills and innovative methodologies.
  • Collaborate with LLNL scientists and engineers to translate research findings into practical applications within LLNL's Global Security programs.
  • Contribute to the development of the CIR program research roadmap in conjunction with other program leads.
  • Establish and nurture internal and external partnerships to secure funding and achieve program objectives.
  • Co-author scientific publications and deliver presentations to diverse audiences.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as required.

Additional Responsibilities for SES.4 Level

  • Oversee multiple complex projects, leveraging team member expertise while ensuring timely completion.
  • Provide strategic technical guidance and serve as a primary contact for program development.
  • Mentor junior staff and support recruitment initiatives.

Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain a DOE Q-level security clearance.
  • Master's degree in Engineering or Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in power grid modeling, simulation, and operational planning.
  • Experience with programming languages for modeling and analysis of power systems.
  • Strong record of technical accomplishments in power systems engineering.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration and documentation.
  • Willingness to travel for professional engagements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
  • Experience with DOE, DoD, and relevant state agencies.
  • Background in the electric power industry and national laboratories.
  • Expertise in power systems automation and microgrid design.
