Clinical Staff Nurse

Position Summary
The Clinical Staff Nurse is a highly skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) responsible for delivering exceptional nursing care and managing patient treatment. Reporting to the Medical-Surgical Telemetry Manager, this role involves 12-hour accountability for organizing, planning, directing, coordinating, and providing individualized patient and family-centered care, adhering to the Watson Model of Care. The nurse will be tasked with recognizing and addressing the unique needs of diverse patient populations, ensuring compliance with the mission and core values of MLK Community Healthcare.
Key Responsibilities
- Utilize the nursing process as a problem-solving framework, leveraging knowledge and experience to anticipate and fulfill patient and family needs.
- Conduct targeted nursing assessments, identifying subtle clinical changes and adjusting care plans accordingly, while prioritizing and organizing patient care effectively.
- Exhibit the necessary knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care for patients in the assigned unit, applying current research and critical thinking to make informed clinical decisions.
- Engage in the Hospital's Patient Satisfaction initiatives through positive interactions with patients, families, and colleagues.
- Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients throughout their healthcare journey, respecting their rights and preferences.
- Communicate effectively using the SBAR method during all hand-off situations.
- Document patient care meticulously, including assessments, interdisciplinary plans of care, implementations, evaluations, and adherence to hospital documentation policies.
- Anticipate factors affecting patient comfort and modify interventions as needed, empowering patients and families to participate actively in recovery.
- Commit to addressing the educational needs of patients and families, utilizing appropriate resources to achieve positive outcomes.
- Collaborate with Care Managers during patient stays, proactively coordinating interdisciplinary discharge planning.
- Review and communicate changes in patient conditions to physicians and team members promptly, ensuring collaborative care.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions and document outcomes accurately.
- Demonstrate leadership by planning, supervising, and evaluating ancillary nursing personnel and ensuring proper evaluations are conducted.
- Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with dress code policies and promote proper identification standards.
- Ensure a safe and clean environment that meets regulatory standards, including Patient Safety Goals.
- Participate in the implementation of the unit-specific Quality and Performance Improvement Plan, reporting findings to the Clinical Unit Supervisor and Nurse Manager.
- Assist with the orientation of new staff and the setup of equipment and patient rooms.
- Support training initiatives for new employees and participate in integrated testing for healthcare systems.
- Provide basic hygiene and activities of daily living (ADLs) to patients as needed.
- Perform any additional duties as assigned by the Nurse Manager.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred.
- Associate degree in Nursing, Nursing Diploma, or equivalent.
- Internal candidates who have completed the MLKCH Versant Nurse Residency Program will be considered.
Experience
- Minimum of one year of clinical nursing experience required.
- Preferred experience of at least 12 months in Med/Surg/Telemetry or Critical Care nursing.
- Current California Nursing license is mandatory.
- Basic EKG competence is required.
- Certifications in Progressive Critical Care Nursing and Medical/Surgical Nursing are preferred.
Skills
- Bilingual skills (Spanish) are preferred.
- Basic computer skills are necessary.
- Dysrhythmia Course certificate is preferred.
- Experience with Electronic Medical Records is preferred.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications are required.
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Blue Card must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
