Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor student progress, analyze data, and report on the effectiveness of instructional strategies to inform ongoing learning plans for students with special needs.
  • Partner with students to develop transition plans for high school or vocational training after middle school graduation.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices in special education for middle school students.

Requirements:

  • Connecticut State Teaching License with an endorsement in Special Education or a related field.
  • Prior experience working with students with special needs in a middle school setting is highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of child development and learning theories as they apply to students with diverse learning needs in middle school.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement effective individualized education programs (IEPs) aligned with state and federal standards.
  • Excellent classroom management and instructional skills to create a positive and engaging learning environment for middle school students with special needs.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills to build strong relationships with students, parents, general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and other school staff.
  • Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and reporting on student progress.
  • A passion for helping middle school students with special needs overcome challenges, prepare for their futures, and reach their full potential in a supportive school environment.
