POSITION SUMMARY:

The Maintenance Technician is accountable for the comprehensive maintenance of plant equipment and facilities, ensuring optimal operational efficiency. This role involves the repair and upkeep of machinery and mechanical systems, including motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production equipment. Additionally, the technician will maintain accurate documentation related to maintenance activities.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures as outlined in the company handbook and established by management. This includes:
    • Implementing lockout/tagout procedures when servicing any equipment with power sources (electrical, hydraulic, or tension).
    • Completing all necessary forms and environmental readings prior to entering confined spaces.
  • Ensure compliance with safety procedures among maintenance personnel.
    • Provide training to maintenance staff on proper safety protocols.
    • Promptly report any safety concerns to the Maintenance Manager/Supervisor.
  • Conduct weekly inspections of the facility for electrical and safety hazards.
    • Identify and rectify any missing electrical covers, frayed cords, or other electrical issues immediately.
    • Address any equipment deficiencies such as missing guards or open panels without delay.
    • Perform repairs and maintenance on machinery as directed by management.
    • Respond to equipment breakdowns swiftly to minimize downtime and maximize efficiency.
    • Conduct preventive maintenance on machinery (greasing, lubricating, tightening belts and chains, replacing sprockets, and making minor adjustments) to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Execute electrical troubleshooting and installation tasks on equipment as required.
  • Maintain cleanliness in work areas by promptly removing tools, parts, and materials after project completion.
  • Ensure all man baskets are cleared of products and materials post-use.
    • Dispose of all products and materials properly.
    • Return all tools and parts to designated storage areas.
  • Regularly inspect equipment for wear and compliance with specifications, completing Maintenance Work Orders as necessary.
  • Perform all duties in alignment with established Quality and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Engage in ERP, Continuous Improvement Teams, and Lean initiatives.
  • Undertake additional tasks and special projects as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Two to four years of hands-on experience in the maintenance field, preferably within a food production environment. A Limited Maintenance Electrician (LME) license is preferred.
  • Experience in maintenance support, including welding and familiarity with maintenance processes and procedures.
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Experience with pneumatics, hydraulics, motors, pumps, and gearbox repairs.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

The physical requirements for this position include the ability to walk, stand for extended periods, climb stairs, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception. The role necessitates the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as designated by the company.
