Job Summary
We are seeking an Education Support Specialist - Special Needs to join our team. This is a unique opportunity to work with students who require additional support in a special education setting. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating a safe and inclusive learning environment that fosters academic growth and social development.
Key Responsibilities
The Education Support Specialist - Special Needs will be responsible for:
- Providing individualized support to students with special needs, including those with physical, emotional, and cognitive disabilities;
- Developing and implementing personalized lesson plans to meet the diverse needs of students;
- Collaborating with teachers and other support staff to ensure seamless transitions and consistency in instruction;
- Assisting students with daily living skills, such as personal hygiene, meal preparation, and time management;
- Maintaining accurate records and reporting progress to parents and teachers;
- Participating in ongoing professional development to stay up-to-date on best practices and methodologies in special education.
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- A high school diploma or equivalent, plus two years of college coursework or an associate's degree (or higher);
- Legal authorization to work in the United States;
- Provision of TB clearance initially upon hire, in accordance with California Education Code;
- CA DOJ and FBI fingerprint clearance prior to the first day of school;
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccination, or approved medical or religious exemption;
- Experience working with students with special needs, preferably in a public school setting;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, parents, and colleagues;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
