Job Summary

The Library Specialist III is a key member of the Texas A&M International University library team, providing exceptional customer service and support to students, faculty, and staff. This role requires a strong understanding of library operations, research databases, and customer service principles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide intermediate customer service for library customers, including responding to resource questions and providing research assistance.
  • Support advanced research questions and instruct library customers on accessing library online catalogs, research guides, and electronic reference databases.
  • Process routine and complex requests for library materials and information, including creating and editing online forms and documents.
  • Identify operational problems and recommend solutions, and update unit-specific databases and spreadsheets.
  • Research and gather information for special projects, and may supervise subordinate staff and student employees.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Provide special collections and archival information reference services, assist patrons with the use of Library resources and equipment, handle cash for services, and enforce library guidelines/policies and general safety.
  • Receive archival materials and engage in related processes, including recording pertinent item information, assisting with accessioning of materials, and proper storage of materials.
  • Assist with Archives Reading Room service and maintenance, including recording and maintaining Special Collections statistics, developing and creating exhibits and public displays, assisting with promotional activities and outreach efforts, and coordinating office and archival processing supply requests.
  • Facilitate access to Special Collections and Archives materials, including the creation of Finding aids for archival collections, assist with the access and retrieval of items, the development and maintenance of online Library Research Guides, and scan, describe, and upload images of archival materials to our online repository.
Requirements
  • High school diploma
  • Five years of related experience in a public, academic, or specialized library or archive
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Word processing and spreadsheet applications
  • Difficult and varied library online research database searches and/or processing
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others
  • Basic keyboarding skills
  • Knowledge of general office practices and equipment, including answering phones, taking messages, filing, operating printers/copiers/scanners
  • Demonstrated computer competency, including Microsoft Windows, MS Office, and Internet services or applications
  • Problem-solving skills, flexibility, and willingness to adapt to changing priorities and projects
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Interact effectively with the general public and co-workers
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills desired
  • Time management skills
  • Form and/or follow a detailed work plan
  • Work independently as necessary
  • Cash handling experience
Working Conditions

This position requires working evenings and weekends, and occasional overnight may be required. Position requires on campus, face-to-face interactions, and maintaining a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.

Salary: $14.43/hourly
