Position Overview
The City of New York is seeking a dedicated and skilled individual for the role of Caretaker X. This position is integral to maintaining the cleanliness and safety of public spaces, ensuring that waste management operations run smoothly and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
The Caretaker X will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:
- Adhering to a designated route for assigned work areas; managing the loading and unloading of waste materials and bulk items; monitoring collected waste for hazardous substances; and performing cleaning duties on development roads and city streets.
- Inspecting, preparing, and operating departmental vehicles and equipment.
- During winter months, operating snowplows to remove snow and ice from development roads and city streets, as well as applying salt and sand as necessary.
- Utilizing operational manuals and instructional materials for guidance.
- Compiling reports, maintaining records, entering data, and making log entries as required.
- Conducting street cleaning and waste collection activities.
- Facilitating recycling collection and encumbrance removal.
- Ensuring proper waste disposal procedures are followed.
- Driving vehicles that may require a CDL license as assigned.
Working Conditions
Caretaker Xs are expected to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, with mandatory overtime as needed. The role requires performing tasks in various weather conditions, which may involve physical activities such as walking or standing for extended periods, operating equipment, and handling heavy objects.

- Preference will be given to candidates with a CDL license.
