Security Officer

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Security Officer to join our team at the Houston Journal of Health Law & Policy. As a Security Officer, you will be responsible for providing physical security for our university building, ensuring the safety and security of our students, faculty, and staff.
Key Responsibilities- Unlock and lock doors, and check all floors for unsecured doors.
- Monitor entry into the building and maintain a sign-in/out log.
- Monitor security cameras and radio traffic, and alert proper personnel of camera malfunctions.
- Answer the telephone and greet visitors, providing information and directions.
- Provide immediate contact with the university's police department in case of an emergency, and prepare incident reports.
- May accept parcel packages and deliver them to designated floors or staff.
- May monitor and control entry into a gated parking lot.
- Patrol assigned areas to check for criminal activity, rule violations, and irregularities.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- No experience necessary, but a valid Texas driver's license is required.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and overtime assignments.
- Proficiency in using a computer and Microsoft Office suite.
- Must pass a criminal history and valid TX driver's license check prior to an interview.
- Must pass a background investigation prior to employment.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screening.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential responsibilities and functions of the job. While performing this job, the staff member shall be exposed to inclement weather conditions, extensive public contact with students, faculty, and staff. Employees are required to work various assigned shifts, including days, evenings, nights, and weekends, and may be required to remain at their post for an additional shift. All staff are 'essential personnel' and are required to report to work during inclement weather.
