Job Summary

This position is responsible for assisting in the performance of semi-skilled and unskilled labor in the construction, maintenance, and related service activities related to street, sewer/storm, traffic, and utility maintenance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate construction and maintenance equipment and power tools, including dump trucks, front-end loaders, and backhoes.
  • Maintain hand tools and assigned equipment, and perform preventive maintenance on equipment.
  • Install street barricades and cones prior to work sites, and direct and control traffic around work sites.
  • Be available for recall during any hour for storm sewer emergencies, snow/ice control work, or other emergency conditions.
  • Utilize proper safety precautions related to all work performed.
  • Inspect and clear obstructions from storm drains, sewer lines, gutters, and culverts, and assist in repair on sewer mains, manholes, and tap sewer mains.
  • Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner and provide information within the area of assignment.
  • Resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Perform snow removal and ice control duties as required.
  • Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints.
  • Participate in safety and risk management activities, and take action to reduce liability to the city.
  • Attend meetings with co-workers and supervisors, and communicate in-person with the public during office hours and after when on call.
