About the Position

The County of San Luis Obispo, CA is seeking highly skilled and dedicated professionals to fill the role of Behavioral Health Specialist I/II. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in providing a variety of outreach, prevention, evaluation, intervention, treatment, counseling, education, and case management services to clients of behavioral health services, including mental health and substance use disorders.

Job Summary

Behavioral Health Specialists in this series will provide services in various settings, including community, schools, clinics, jail, juvenile hall, and inpatient settings. You will work closely with clients, families, and community partners to assess needs, develop treatment plans, and provide evidence-based interventions. Your expertise will be essential in promoting recovery, reducing stigma, and improving overall well-being.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group counseling, case management, and education services to clients with mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Conduct assessments, develop treatment plans, and provide ongoing support to clients and their families.
  • Collaborate with community partners, including schools, healthcare providers, and social services agencies, to ensure comprehensive care and support.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement treatment plans, and provide consultation and training to staff.
  • Document client progress, maintain accurate records, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Stay up-to-date with best practices, research, and evidence-based interventions in the field of behavioral health.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a human social services/sciences or related health field, or equivalent experience.
  • Two years of experience in providing behavioral health prevention/counseling services, or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong knowledge of evidence-based interventions, assessment tools, and treatment planning.
