The University of Miami Health System is seeking a full-time Radiologic Imaging Specialist 2 within the Department of Orthopedics. This role involves executing intricate procedures in Radiology through the use of radiographic machinery to capture the highest quality diagnostic images while minimizing radiation exposure. The Radiologic Imaging Specialist 2 will also support departmental operations and supervise designated areas, procedures, and equipment, demonstrating independent judgment, creativity, and initiative.

The University of Miami Health System is expanding its state-of-the-art facility, enhancing our distinguished regional network of ambulatory services. This expansion will continue to provide exceptional academic medicine, advanced technology, and innovative treatment options to the growing community. The facility will feature various specialized services, including comprehensive cancer care, eye health, urology, and other specialties, ensuring residents have access to specialized medical services.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Collaborates with Radiologists and PhD professionals to develop innovative protocols and imaging techniques tailored to the facility. Assists in the training and education of new physicians.
  • Monitors the daily charging of Radiologic procedures and supplies to ensure accuracy.
  • Demonstrates Radiologic equipment during site visits for visiting physicians and administrators.
  • Reviews and verifies orders for Radiologic scans, ensuring all necessary information is understood, including procedures requested and patient conditions.
  • Ensures orders align with the recommended exam type, notifying supervisors of discrepancies and contacting physician offices for corrections as needed.
  • Establishes rapport with patients to identify service requirements and verifies patient identity through electronic medical records and wristbands.
  • Performs specialized tasks associated with Radiologic scanners and related equipment, adhering to prescribed radiation safety protocols under the supervision of a Radiologist.
  • Integrates diagnostic and laboratory results, patient history, and medical records, adapting exams as necessary while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Maintains proper aseptic techniques in accordance with universal precaution guidelines.
  • Assists Radiologists with imaging procedures, including starting IVs and administering contrast as applicable. Evaluates Radiologic scans for technical quality and organizes processed images appropriately.
  • Contributes to the orientation and training of new Radiologic technologists and provides education to student technologists.
  • Applies age-specific and developmental care needs of patients according to documented requirements.
  • Addresses the physical and psychological needs of patients during scanning procedures and initiates life support measures when necessary.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures, safeguarding University assets.
  • Additional work location may be applicable.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Graduate of an Accredited Radiologic Technology/Diagnostic Imaging Program required.

Certification and Licensing:

CPR and BLS certification required.

Experience:

Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.

  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
