Job Summary

Corewell Health is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist II to join our team. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing phlebotomy services to ensure accurate test results and quick turnaround times.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform venipuncture and capillary punctures to obtain adequate samples, ensuring correct patient identification, specimen labeling, and documentation.
  • Support laboratory testing activities, including phlebotomy, specimen collection, computer order entry, and specimen processing, to ensure accurate result reporting and quick turnaround times.
  • Process specimens, including verification, accessioning, aliquoting, processing, and batching send-out testing, adding/cancelling tests, distributing, storing, and disposing of specimens.
  • Perform registration duties, including computer-based registration and order entry, as applicable to the site/location of assignment.
  • Adhere to compliance policies related to job duties, including presenting Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN) of non-coverage prior to delivery of outpatient services.
  • Perform observational competency of support staff under the guidance of phlebotomy leadership, using established criteria.
  • Oversee and schedule training of new employees, provide in-service education on new policies and procedures, and may act as a shift leader.
  • Maintain department equipment and inventory to ensure proper supplies are available.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, data collection, QC documentation, and/or CAP surveys, as applicable to the assigned department.
Requirements
  • A minimum of a High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Medical Assistant or Phlebotomy Course and phlebotomy externship required.
  • Completion of a phlebotomy training program required, or achievement of 50 draws within previous roles.
  • A minimum of 6 months of experience as a Phlebotomist required, one year preferred.
  • Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant Certification preferred.
