- ICU Overview: The ICU consists of 4 intensive care beds.
We provide care for patients with a variety of diagnoses, including but not limited to:
- Acute Myocardial Infarction
- Congestive Heart Failure
- Post-Trauma
- Shock
- Diabetic Ketoacidosis
- Acute Croup
- Surgical Patients
The unit operates with a staffing model of 2 ICU RNs and 1 Monitor Tech/CNA for each shift, ensuring comprehensive care 24 hours a day, tailored to the number and acuity of ICU patients.
Key Responsibilities:
The Registered Nurse is responsible for delivering high-quality care to all patients while ensuring their safety throughout the continuum of care. This includes advocating for patients and respecting their advanced directives and decisions.
The RN will conduct admission assessments in accordance with unit policies, utilizing patient history, effective communication, and thorough physical assessments. Critical thinking and analytical skills are essential in this role.
The Registered Nurse will accurately identify nursing diagnoses and collaborative problems to determine suitable interventions aligned with accepted standards of care.
Additionally, the RN will assess the unique needs of adult, geriatric, adolescent, and pediatric patients, developing tailored care plans accordingly.
Maintaining precise and objective patient records is crucial, as is ensuring the efficiency and accuracy of orders. The RN will manage patient care responsibilities by effectively organizing their workload and adapting to environmental changes.
Utilization of departmental equipment must be performed correctly and efficiently, demonstrating knowledge of any special preparations or equipment necessary for specific procedures.
The nursing competencies required for this role include, but are not limited to:
- IV access
- ECG interpretation
- Hemodynamic monitoring and interpretation
- Airway management
- Pain management
- Neurological assessment
- Fluid management
- Infection control measures
- Respiratory management
- Sedation and analgesia assessment and monitoring
The Registered Nurse will communicate professionally and collaborate effectively with patients, families, colleagues, healthcare team members, and ancillary departments to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care.
The RN must demonstrate the ability to manage a high volume of patient, family, staff, and physician priorities within tight timeframes, showcasing critical thinking, delegation skills, and respectful communication.
