Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States The Public Interest Network Full time
Position Overview

The Public Interest Network is seeking a dedicated and skilled organizer to foster public support for initiatives aimed at safeguarding clean water and promoting conservation efforts throughout Pennsylvania.

This role encompasses campaigns focused on the preservation of our parks, forests, and public lands, alongside efforts to protect and rejuvenate Pennsylvania's vital rivers, lakes, and streams from significant pollution sources.

The Clean Water and Conservation Associate will play a crucial role in defending essential conservation programs against challenges at both federal and state levels; advocate for enhanced stewardship of public lands and open spaces; and address threats posed by fracking, urban development, and illegal pollution that jeopardize our waterways, wildlife, and public health.

Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with Coalitions:

Engage with organizations and community groups invested in the protection of Pennsylvania's natural resources, wildlife, and waterways to build support and involve them in strategies and campaigns aimed at achieving conservation and clean water objectives.

Organize Community Engagement:

Plan and execute webinars, community gatherings, and public forums. Mobilize organizations and community members to participate actively.

Generate Media Attention:

Coordinate media events and compose opinion pieces. Cultivate a social media presence to promote your campaign.

Advocate with Legislators:

Develop strategies in collaboration with supportive lawmakers in Congress or the Pennsylvania General Assembly. Persuasively advocate for vital conservation and clean water policies while opposing detrimental proposals. During critical votes on conservation initiatives, showcase the grassroots support you have cultivated to secure necessary votes.

Expand Your Team:

Assist in building the team by recruiting volunteers, interns, and full-time staff.

Manage a Grassroots Campaign Office:

Operate a campaign office during the summer to fundraise for initiatives, strengthen the organization and its membership, and cultivate essential grassroots support for key campaigns while enhancing your organizing and management capabilities. Flexibility in location may be required.

Qualifications

Entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply. Comprehensive training in advocacy and organizing skills will be provided, along with guidance from experienced advocates during your campaign.

Ideal candidates will demonstrate a commitment to environmental protection and a passion for Pennsylvania's public lands, coupled with leadership experience, exceptional writing and public speaking abilities, a willingness to learn, and readiness to embrace challenges.

Compensation and Benefits

The starting annual salary for this position is competitive, accompanied by an attractive benefits package. This includes medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and their dependents, paid time off, a commuter benefits program, a 401(k) plan with employer matching, parental leave, long-term disability insurance, and potential needs-based student loan assistance.

Additionally, an excellent training program and opportunities for career advancement are available.
