Overview
The Material Handler I plays a crucial role in the logistics process by assisting in the efficient loading and unloading of various goods. This position is essential for maintaining the smooth operation of the warehouse environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support drivers in the loading and unloading of bins.
- Prepare both soft and hard goods bins for transport.
- Manage the loading and unloading of trucks and trailers, including raw donations and recyclable materials.
- Sort and categorize items into soft goods, hard goods, and waste.
- Ensure accurate labeling of all items (e.g., donations, commodities, salvage).
- Organize recyclables into designated containers (metal, plastic, cardboard).
- Construct and palletize empty containers for commodities, ensuring proper support for heavier items.
- Operate various equipment (e.g., auger, compactor, baler) following established safety protocols.
- Utilize material handling tools (e.g., pallet jack, hand truck) effectively.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization within the warehouse to promote a safe working environment.
- Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 25 lbs.
Additional Responsibilities
- Perform other tasks and special projects as assigned.
Supervisory Role
- This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications
To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to fulfill essential duties effectively. The following qualifications are necessary:
- Previous experience in a warehouse setting.
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- Ability to work with moderate supervision.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English is preferred.
- Commitment to safety practices.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a courteous demeanor.
- Ability to follow both written and verbal instructions consistently.
- Flexibility in work shifts and willingness to work overtime as needed.

Certifications
- Forklift certification is required.
Language Skills

Reasoning Skills
- Ability to apply common sense to follow instructions and solve problems in standardized situations.
Training Requirements
- Completion of New Hire Orientation.
- Participation in Harassment Prevention training.
- Engagement in Safety training.
