Position Overview

ShovelBums is looking for a Lead Archaeologist/Senior Project Manager to enhance our expanding Cultural Resources division. This role is available in multiple locations across the United States. The ideal candidate will leverage their archaeological expertise to evaluate planning and infrastructure initiatives, as well as prepare and review environmental documentation in alignment with relevant preservation regulations.

Your Contributions

  • Act as the Principal Investigator for significant federal projects, including planning and executing fieldwork (surveys, testing, data recovery, and monitoring).
  • Conduct thorough research, oversee data collection, and produce comprehensive technical reports.
  • Provide leadership and technical direction to ensure the delivery of superior Cultural Resources services, while adhering to project timelines and budgets.
  • Lead proposal development, including the creation of scope and fee documents to ensure client satisfaction and project profitability.
  • Evaluate sites for their eligibility for the National Register of Historic Places, ensuring compliance with relevant preservation laws.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to assess and mitigate impacts to sites in accordance with established regulations.
  • Maintain a culture of safety within field teams, adhering to all safety standards.
  • Support the broader Cultural Resources team with various project tasks as needed.
  • Mentor junior staff and potentially transition into a managerial role.
  • Be prepared for fieldwork and travel to project sites, which may require overnight stays.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a closely related discipline, meeting the Secretary of the Interior's Standards.
  • 10-15 years of professional archaeology experience, including field surveys and site evaluations, with a minimum of 5 years as a Principal Investigator.
  • Must be a qualified archaeologist in accordance with state regulations and hold a Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA) designation.
  • Experience working on federal lands is preferred, with prior U.S. Forest Service experience being highly desirable.
  • Strong written, technical, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Intermediate proficiency in ArcGIS is preferred.
  • A valid driver's license and a driving record that complies with company policy are required.
