Position Summary:
The General Clerk is responsible for adhering to clearly defined procedures while executing simple, repetitive tasks in a consistent order. Key responsibilities include organizing pre-coded documents into chronological files and operating various office equipment such as photocopiers, fax machines, and computers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with various administrative tasks.
- Maintain a diverse range of financial and other records, both manually and electronically.
- Verify the accuracy and completeness of statistical reports.
- Compile relevant information as needed.
- Address and resolve complaints effectively.
- Utilize comprehensive knowledge of office operations to select appropriate methods and procedures for processing complex transactions.
- Independently determine the necessary steps to complete assignments.
- May oversee the work of junior clerks.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- 2 to 3 years of experience in a clerical role.
- Experience in general office or customer service is preferred.
- Proficient in operating a computer keyboard.
- Possess subject-matter knowledge and judgment to complete tasks that involve multiple steps with varying complexity.
- Familiarity with personal computers, including word processing and spreadsheet software.
- Strong interpersonal skills to foster effective relationships and work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Basic mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Effective oral and written communication skills to convey factual and procedural information and to follow instructions accurately.
- Ability to adapt to changing work priorities and manage multiple requests simultaneously.
- Demonstrated common sense and problem-solving skills.
- Responsive to customer inquiries and requests, with the ability to escalate issues appropriately.
- May need to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
Physical Requirements:
