Responsibilities
  • Obtain medical histories, perform physical examinations, and suggest relevant laboratory and radiographic studies to establish or support a diagnosis.
  • Formulate and order therapeutic regimens for treatment of pathologic states or disabling entities.
  • Document patient histories, physical examinations, and relevant clinical information, ensuring adequate documentation of existing medical conditions.
  • Monitor treatment progress and protocols of patients in chronic care clinical settings, counsel patients on preventive medicine regimens, and review medical records or therapeutic regimens to ensure proper content and appropriateness of medical regimen.
  • Provide patient counseling and health instruction about medical problems, nutrition, medication, and principles of health promotion and maintenance.
  • Serve as a representative and emissary of the physician in delegated matters of related duties as required, including interdisciplinary coordination and clinical care responsibilities.
  • Document all healthcare encounters and relevant clinical information in the electronic medical records.
  • Identify appropriate internal controls for the department, provide mechanisms to monitor and enforce compliance, and adhere to internal controls and reporting structure established for the department.
Requirements
  • Completion of a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or a graduate-level nurse practitioner program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) or the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
  • Licensed Physician Assistant by the Texas Physician Assistant Board/Texas Medical Board (TPAB/TMB) or Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) and Licensed Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in a nurse practitioner clinical area of specialization by the Texas Board of Nursing (TBON).
Work Environment

The work environment is located within the confines of a prison, jail, or juvenile detention center. Security clearance is required, and pre-employment drug testing is also required.

Salary is commensurate with years of relevant work experience.
