Position Overview:

The Clinical Laboratory Specialist will adhere to the laboratory's protocols for specimen management and processing, conducting test analyses, reporting findings, and maintaining comprehensive records of patient test outcomes. This role requires maintaining documentation that verifies proficiency testing samples are handled in the same manner as patient specimens.

Utilizing approved testing methodologies, the Clinical Laboratory Specialist will analyze specimens according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Responsibilities include reviewing and releasing test results while ensuring compliance with CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety regulations.

Quality Control Responsibilities:
Ensure adherence to the laboratory's quality control standards, documenting all quality control activities, instrument calibrations, and maintenance performed. Follow established policies and procedures when test systems deviate from acceptable performance levels.

Identify and rectify issues that may negatively impact test performance or reporting. In cases of deviation, promptly notify the senior technologist or supervisor and document all corrective actions taken.

Follow departmental procedures for reporting STAT or critical results to clients and respond to inquiries from customers or laboratory personnel as necessary. Maintain thorough records of all testing conducted on-site and uphold the overall appearance of the department.

Required Qualifications:
A comprehensive understanding of laboratory testing is essential for this position. Candidates must possess strong computer skills and be adaptable to various computer systems. Knowledge of Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) practices is also required.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology is preferred; alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Biology, or an associate degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology is acceptable. Candidates educated outside the United States must provide a detailed credential evaluation from a recognized organization.

Successful candidates should possess or be eligible for national certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) from a recognized certifying body.

Experience Requirements:
A minimum of one year of clinical experience in high complexity testing is preferred. Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Biology should have at least one year of clinical laboratory experience in complex testing. National and state licensure as required.

Additional Skills:
Candidates must demonstrate the ability to prioritize tasks effectively and manage multiple procedures simultaneously. Interaction with other departments and clients may be necessary, making strong customer service skills vital. Maintaining patient confidentiality is paramount.
