JOB SUMMARY

The Surgical Nurse First Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting physicians during surgical procedures. This position involves assisting in the intra-operative phase, which includes draping, suturing, clamping, and ensuring optimal exposure of the surgical field. The role requires proficiency in assisting with a variety of surgical procedures across different patient demographics and modalities, including robotic surgeries.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Document patient care information accurately in electronic or paper medical records.
  • Utilize effective interview techniques to gather patient history and provide necessary interventions.
  • Identify and adhere to care standards relevant to the patient population.
  • Deliver patient care using critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Administer medications safely and evaluate patient outcomes to ensure care needs are met.
  • Maintain clear communication with the surgical team and patient families throughout the care continuum.
  • Participate in educational opportunities to enhance clinical skills and knowledge of current policies.
  • Serve as a mentor for new staff and students, evaluating their clinical and interpersonal skills.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in Florida.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in perioperative nursing, demonstrating proficiency as both a scrub and circulating nurse.
  • Completion of a Registered Nurse First Assistant course recognized by the Florida Board of Nursing.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an accredited provider.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office applications.
