Position Overview

HealthPartners is excited to announce the establishment of a new ECMO program aimed at enhancing patient care within our community. We are seeking a skilled professional, either a Respiratory Therapist or Registered Nurse, to take on the role of ECMO Technician. In this position, you will play a crucial role in the development of this program while collaborating with a dedicated team of healthcare professionals including Respiratory Therapists and Nurses.


The ECMO Technician will be accountable for the comprehensive management of mechanical circulatory/ECMO equipment and circuits, which includes assembling, priming, maintaining, monitoring, and troubleshooting throughout the treatment process.

This role involves close collaboration with bedside nursing staff to ensure that patients receiving ECMO support achieve optimal oxygenation, perfusion, and maintain hemodynamic stability, all within the parameters set by the ECMO provider.

The ECMO Technician will also support ECMO Leadership in gathering and analyzing quality improvement data, utilizing both internal and external benchmarks to identify best practices.


Work Schedule: 12-hour shifts - Nights, with a rotation of 2 out of 6 weekends.

Qualifications Required:

Education and Experience:

An Associate degree or higher in Respiratory Therapy or completion of a two-year American Medical Association accredited program in Respiratory Care. Alternatively, relevant coursework and credentials (such as a graduate of a two-year respiratory therapist program plus CRT certification) that qualify for the National Board for Respiratory Care registry exam may be considered.

An Associate degree in Nursing.

A minimum of 3 years of critical care experience in an acute care environment is essential.

Licensure/Registration/Certification:
A valid Respiratory Therapist License from the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice and Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)

A valid Minnesota RN License.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is required.
