Early Childhood Education Specialist

The Early Childhood Education Specialist at Focus: HOPE is tasked with overseeing the comprehensive planning, evaluation, and instruction of children aged 3-5 years, tailored to the unique needs of each child and aligned with the standards of Head Start and GSRP grants. This role is pivotal in ensuring the maintenance of program excellence and adherence to documentation requirements as stipulated in the GSRP Implementation Manual, Preschool Program Quality Assessment (PQA), and LARA licensing guidelines, alongside any additional qualifications mandated by MDE.
Key Responsibilities
- Foster a collaborative team environment, ensuring effective coordination of services and resource sharing within the classroom.
- Conduct monthly safety inspections, fire drills, and safety meetings, while maintaining an updated Safety Log.
- Investigate incidents involving children or staff, ensuring all documentation is completed and relevant authorities are notified.
- Participate in IFSP/IEP meetings as necessary.
- Design and equip both indoor and outdoor learning spaces to cater to children's developmental and safety requirements, adhering to budget constraints.
- Facilitate daily outdoor activities for children to promote physical well-being.
- Enhance community engagement through networking opportunities, volunteer participation, and educational outreach regarding program needs.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as with any contracts, health, safety, and licensing standards.
- Oversee quality assurance and program evaluation processes.
- Regularly report to the immediate supervisor and/or Program Director regarding center activities and status.
- Adhere to the Focus: HOPE Early Learning Handbook.
- Develop and implement a nurturing, safe, and developmentally appropriate learning environment that supports kindergarten readiness as defined by Head Start Program Performance Standards.
- Create engaging lesson plans that incorporate hands-on and experiential learning, considering the diverse needs and abilities of students.
- Collaborate with parents, administrators, specialists, and social workers to implement individualized educational programs (IEPs) for students with varying learning abilities.
- Establish a flexible learning environment that prioritizes student success and maximizes potential.
- Monitor, assess, and report on student progress regularly.
- Maintain effective communication with parents regarding their children's development.
- Work with appropriate personnel to develop mainstream instructional strategies.
- Maintain classroom structure and discipline.
- Keep accurate attendance records.
- Demonstrate respect and consideration for all individuals, fostering self-esteem among students.
- Comply with program curriculum and state licensing requirements for childcare centers.
- Regularly observe and assess children's development, analyze data, and create plans or referrals tailored to individual needs.
- Design daily lesson plans that encompass all facets of the program's curriculum, focusing on social-emotional, cognitive, language, literacy, and physical development.
- Provide daily guidance and support to classroom staff, volunteers, and interns through effective communication and modeling desired behaviors.
- Build positive relationships with families to enhance parent-child interactions and promote appropriate family activities.
- Assist other program service areas with direct and indirect services, providing community resources for families.
- Address the needs of children and families in collaboration with the Site Leader and/or Family Service worker.
- Set daily and weekly goals that promote individual and group educational plans, encouraging parental involvement.
- Prepare materials in advance to support lesson plans and curriculum objectives.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- While fulfilling job responsibilities, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and communicate effectively. Occasionally, the employee may need to sit, use hands for various tasks, and may lift or move items weighing up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Education and Experience
Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or equivalent, with training or coursework in early childhood development, particularly focused on infant and toddler development.
