Field-Based Cost Estimator - Contents


The Cost Estimator role represents the second tier in our Estimating career path, achieved following the completion of BELFOR's new hire training program.

This position entails the creation and management of estimates and projects across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors.

Responsibilities include meeting with clients, developing precise and competitive estimates utilizing Xactimate software, overseeing projects until completion, reviewing budgets, and communicating progress with clients and management.

Cost Estimators will also review invoices and labor promptly to ensure all costs are accounted for in the monthly job costs. Upon completing the required BELFOR training, qualified candidates will attain the appropriate Estimator title and position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain a local clientele for referral of losses, primarily insurance adjusters, but also including community business owners, educational institutions, and local governments.
  • Create accurate floor plans using Xactimate Sketch.
  • Possess a working knowledge of relevant building codes.
  • Develop and adhere to acceptable budgets, addressing any overages as they arise.
  • Utilize the BELFOR naming convention for estimates, revised estimates, proposals, change orders, etc.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of all local building codes.
  • Maintain a construction schedule and collaborate with trades and management to ensure timely project completion, identifying and proposing solutions when additional resources are necessary.
  • Exhibit proficiency in source removal, decontamination, mitigation, containment, ventilation, contents handling, and deodorization techniques.
  • Be skilled in investigative demolition, controlled demolition, decontamination, structure cleaning, and deodorization services.
  • Engage in ongoing training with BELFOR University, including Basic Xactimate training as preparation for passing Estimator Level 2 or 3 User Certification tests, depending on the Estimator role.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Independently manage personal workload.
  • Ensure vehicle safety and maintenance inspections, keeping vehicles in a clean and serviceable condition.
  • Complete all required accident, injury, and incident reporting forms in a timely manner.
Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills are essential.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
