Direct Support Professional II

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Direct Support Professional II to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. As a DSP II, you will play a vital role in providing support and care to individuals with intellectual disabilities in various settings.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide routine and emergency care, treatment, and training to individuals with intellectual disabilities
• Assist with daily living activities, such as grooming, bathing, and feeding
• Observe and report individual's conditions and behaviors
• Participate in individualized training and/or active treatment programs
• Document information on individual's life, including daily schedules and unusual incidents
• Work effectively with others as a member of a team
• May provide training/mentorship to new DSPs and/or volunteer to serve as a shift/team lead
Requirements:
• Ability to speak and read English
• Ability to make decisions and use good judgment when dealing with critical incidents
• Ability to react quickly and calmly in an emergency situation
• Ability to demonstrate proper body mechanics, good posture, and proper lifting techniques
• Knowledge of individual care techniques and of treatment, therapy, and developmental programs
• Ability to provide individual care, administer first aid and/or CPR, and conduct Safe Use of Restraint (SUR)
• Ability to communicate effectively and to train/mentor/coach others
