Job Summary

We are seeking a Respiratory Therapy Extern to join our team at Thomas Jefferson University. As a Respiratory Therapy Extern, you will work under the supervision of a Registered/Certified Respiratory Therapist (RT) to provide designated direct and indirect patient care activities.

Responsibilities
  • Interact with co-workers, visitors, and other staff in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Perform designated direct and indirect patient care activities to meet patient care needs.
  • Monitor and maintain a safe and effective patient care environment, reporting any changes to the RT.
  • Assist in maintaining supplies and equipment to ensure efficient operations.
  • Wash, clean, dry, and bag non-disposable equipment for sterilization by Central Processing to promote infection control.
  • Perform pressure, volume, and EST checks on ventilators to ensure proper equipment function.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the RT.
Qualifications

To be eligible for this position, you must be a student currently enrolled in a CoARC accredited college respiratory program. You must also have completed an introductory respiratory care course, one medical surgical or general medical clinical rotation, and the associated skills labs.

You must also hold American Heart Association – Basic Life Support CPR certification.

Conditions of Employment

As a condition of employment, you will be required to undergo a Pennsylvania State Police criminal background check, a Pennsylvania Department of Welfare child abuse criminal background clearance, and an FBI fingerprint-based federal criminal records check.

You will also be required to receive the Covid vaccination prior to hire date, unless you request and receive an approved medical or religious exemption from Jefferson.
