Construction Project Supervisor

The
Construction Project Supervisor is essential in managing the development of new residences, rehabilitation projects, and auxiliary living spaces within the service area of Habitat for Humanity.
This engaging role involves collaborating with both staff and unskilled volunteers across various construction sites, including homeowner-occupied properties and diverse job locations.
The ideal candidate will exhibit outstanding leadership capabilities, mentoring and guiding our teams of skilled and unskilled volunteers to ensure the successful completion of projects and the fulfillment of our organization's mission.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct on-site assessments; interpret architectural plans, including structural and civil blueprints to assist the Director of Construction with project scopes, budgets, and timelines in collaboration with staff, subcontractors, and designers.
Oversee the check-in process for volunteers at the work site and confirm they possess the necessary tools and safety gear.
Facilitate daily volunteer training and safety briefings.
Provide on-site technical support and guidance to volunteers, staff, and subcontractors.
Ensure that all required documentation is on file prior to workdays, such as volunteer waivers and attendance sheets.
Identify and train qualified construction volunteer team leaders based on their skill levels.
Adhere to and enforce Habitat for Humanity International and local construction policies and standards for quality workmanship.
Maintain a safe construction environment in accordance with CAL-OSHA regulations.
Coordinate the permitting process and secure all necessary building permits.
Ensure compliance with California Residential Building Codes.
Monitor, approve, and identify items on invoices, statements, or receipts for construction materials purchased or donated, and submit receipts promptly.
Track and manage expenses in relation to project budgets.Assist the Construction Procurement Manager in sourcing materials through national agreements, local contractors, and vendors.
Help maintain an inventory of supplies, tools, and equipment, ensuring the correct types and quantities of materials are available at construction sites.
Support the solicitation of donations and sponsorships for material acquisition.
Assist in applying for grant funding by providing relevant construction information as needed.
Communicate effectively and appropriately with volunteers, donors, homeowners, and staff.
Resolve conflicts that may arise with partners or volunteers during construction phases.
Assist in the upkeep of Habitat's owned or leased properties; monitor and implement maintenance schedules for construction vehicles; oversee tool inventory and security systems.
Ensure participation in occasional evening and weekend meetings/activities as required.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Understand Habitat for Humanity's philosophy with a commitment to promoting its mission.
Comprehensive knowledge of construction principles, operations, and management.
Prior remodeling experience is preferred.
Experience in managing, training, and motivating volunteers is essential.
Moderate computer and software proficiency, including Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to connect with diverse populations, including those facing economic challenges.
Ability and willingness to foster effective and harmonious working relationships with staff, community leaders, building officials, contractors, vendors, donors, homeowners, and volunteers.
Provide excellent customer service, including managing challenging situations, responding promptly to needs, soliciting feedback for service improvement, and meeting commitments.
Leadership qualities that encourage teamwork are necessary to balance team and individual responsibilities.Additional Requirements
A minimum of three years' experience in residential construction is required.
Previous experience with Habitat for Humanity construction is a plus.
Experience working with volunteers or in social services is advantageous.
A California General Contractor License is not mandatory but is a plus.
A valid CA Driver's License and a clean driving record are required.
Availability to work Tuesday through Saturday, 7 am to 4 pm.
Working Conditions
A fast-paced construction environment with fixed deadlines.
The work environment may involve daily exposure to dirt, dust, moisture, construction debris, extreme temperatures, construction noise, and fumes from materials.
Individuals may frequently endure hot and cold weather conditions to perform outdoor tasks. The employee is often exposed to high, precarious locations; fumes or airborne particles; and toxic or caustic chemicals. Prolonged standing, visual acuity, and physical dexterity are required.-
