Welder Journeyman

The Marine Group Boat Works is seeking a skilled Journeyman Welder to join our team. As a Journeyman Welder, you will be responsible for performing complex welds, assisting and advising other welders, and sharing your knowledge and expertise with the team.

• Perform the most difficult welds required, including certifying in stainless steel and aluminum, customer and company specifications.
• Assist, advise, and share job knowledge with other welders.
• Evaluate and correct basic weld pick-up with minimal supervision.
• Work in compliance with all safety, quality, environmental, and health requirements.

• Must be able to pass an eye test and workmanship qualification test.
• Must be tested and fit for respirator use.
• Willing to work any shift and overtime as required.

• High school diploma required.
• Minimum of 7 years of proven experience in a welding trade is required.
• Shipyard experience is preferred, but not required.

• Ability to take direction and follow instructions.
• Good mechanical aptitude with ability to produce consistent quality.
• Ability to inspect and correct basic weld pick-up without supervision.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills.
• Excellent hand-eye coordination; good spatial orientation.
• Ability to consistently meet production deadlines.
• Ability to use conventional and precision measuring instruments.
• Ability to pass a skills evaluation test to demonstrate welding ability.
• Ability to weld in uncomfortable positions where applicable.
• Ability to work on beams, scaffolding, ladders, and confined spaces.
• Ability and willingness to work with and to teach less-skilled workers.
• Ability to maintain and perform routine preventive maintenance on welding equipment.

• Frequent standing, balancing, walking, climbing ladders or equipment, reaching above shoulder or out in front, manual dexterity, pushing, pulling, kneeling, bending, seeing, hearing, and occasionally lowering self into confined spaces, crawling through small openings, and working in reclined positions, as needed.
• Physical ability to lift, push, pull, and carry 50+ lbs., bend, stoop, and climb scaffold and work on elevated work surfaces, beams, ladders, and confined spaces.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, talk, or hear.
• The vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• Works in all areas of the shipyard and on-board ships.
• Hearing warning signals and reading and comprehending safety instructions.
• Must be able to maintain general safety awareness and avoid hazards commonly present in employee's work area.
• The noise level in the work environment can vary and is often loud.
