Medication Aide

Job Summary:
Independence Village is seeking a skilled Medication Aide to join our team. As a Medication Aide, you will play a vital role in ensuring the health and well-being of our residents by assisting with medication administration and other healthcare-related tasks.
Responsibilities:
- Administer medications and treatments as ordered by physicians in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Verify the identity of residents before administering medication or treatment.
- Follow hand-washing policies and universal precautions to prevent the spread of infection.
- Order medications, supplies, and equipment as necessary in accordance with established procedures.
- Remove expired or discontinued medications from carts and resident apartments as required.
- Ensure medication records are accurate and up-to-date.
- Review medication sheets for completeness and accuracy.
- Report any discrepancies or unusual situations to the nurse in charge.
- Chart and document resident care and services in accordance with community policies and procedures.
- Assist with admit, transfer, and discharge of residents as requested.
- Review charts for specific treatment, medication, diet orders, etc.
- Notify the nurse in charge of changes in resident condition.
- Make sure work areas are maintained in a clean and sanitary manner.
- Always show courtesy, respect, and a positive attitude to residents, family members, and associates.
- Report accidents and incidents observed on the shift they occurred.
- Document important events in the 24-hour report.
- Assist with activities of daily living.
- Encourage social development and participation in activities.
- Assist with light housekeeping, including emptying trash and changing linens.
- Escort residents to and from dining areas for meals.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Previous healthcare, geriatrics, caregiving, or experience working with the elderly population preferred.
- Ability to adjust to many types of personalities and situations.
- Must have aptitude for dementia-related situations.
- Realization that incompetence and errors may have serious consequences for residents.
- Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must have current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Must have CMA certification.
- Must have a TB clearance.
Working Conditions:
This position entails standing for long periods of time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to communicate effectively with others, sit, stand, walk, and use hands to handle equipment and objects. The employee must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and push/pull equipment frequently. The employee is expected to possess good organization skills, with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. The employee must be compassionate and empathetic. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee may frequently bend, reach, grasp, and climb. The employee may need to squat and kneel. The work environment requires appropriate interaction with others. The noise level in the work environment is moderate. Occasional travel to different locations may be required.
