Our senior engineers are inquisitive open-source advocates, seasoned generalists eager to tackle infrastructure challenges at every layer of the stack. We focus on initiatives that will enable us to operate more swiftly, reliably, and scale effectively into the future. Our current projects include transitioning legacy services to our Kubernetes-based hybrid cloud, revamping deployment automation for our bare-metal services, enhancing our observability framework, and discovering innovative ways to better serve our internal stakeholders.

Work Arrangement: Remote - US
Compensation Package: $125,000-$160,000 Base Salary + 10% Annual Performance Bonus
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and manage Linux-based systems in both public cloud and colocation settings.
- Oversee the lifecycle of open-source and proprietary services that underpin all facets of our operations, including authentication, logging, metrics, code repositories, secrets management, and more.
- Modernize infrastructure by transitioning older applications into containers or developing new Infrastructure as Code (IaC) automation for deployment on VMs or bare-metal hosts.
- Enhance the speed and safety of value delivery by pinpointing automation opportunities and creating self-service tools for internal stakeholders.
- Boost operational visibility through system monitoring, metrics collection, instrumentation, and log analysis.
- Mitigate business risks by mapping and implementing security and business continuity compliance requirements or through targeted enhancements to legacy systems.
- Administer and monitor databases and data flows, ensuring replication and high availability.
- Provide mentorship to fellow engineers to elevate their skill sets and the team's overall delivery capabilities.
- Create and maintain operational documentation for both new and existing systems.
- Participate in an on-call rotation with team members.
- 5+ years of experience in Linux systems engineering roles supporting bare-metal servers, virtualization, and container platforms.
- Proficient in building and managing infrastructure in both public cloud and physical data center environments using Infrastructure as Code tools.
- Experience in migrating custom Linux-based services into containerized environments.
- Demonstrated ability to automate processes effectively using various methods (scripts, configuration management tools, CI pipelines, etc.).
- Strong understanding of networking principles and storage technologies.
- Ability to produce documentation and establish processes that enable team collaboration and support.
- Experience in supporting customer-facing SaaS products.
- Willingness to engage with and resolve new, ambiguous, or complex challenges.
- Proven capability to prioritize improvements based on necessity; able to see the big picture.
- High standards for team communication, feedback, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
- Familiarity with big data technologies and relational databases.
- Compute: CentOS/Rocky Linux, AWS (EC2, S3, Glacier), OpenStack, Nutanix, KVM, ZFS.
- Languages: Bash, Python.
- DevOps Tools: Ansible, Terraform, GitLab, Hashicorp Vault/Consul.
- Containers and Orchestration: Kubernetes, Docker/Podman, Airflow.
- Monitoring and Metrics: Icinga/Nagios, Graphite, Grafana, CollectD, AWS CloudWatch.
- Logging: ELK/OpenSearch, Splunk, Syslog, Journald.
- Load Balancing: Nginx, HAProxy, Keepalived.
- Big Data: Hadoop, Kafka, MinIO.
- Databases: MySQL/MariaDB/Galera.
