Job Summary

Make the Road New York (MRNY) seeks a highly skilled and experienced Lead Immigration Attorney to join its Legal Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising a team of attorneys and paralegals, providing individualized assistance to clients in removal proceedings, and advocating for immigrants with complex cases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise a team of attorneys and paralegals, ensuring the provision of high-quality legal services and developing their professional growth.
  • Provide individualized assistance to clients in removal proceedings, including those with complex cases due to criminal records and other issues.
  • Assist with know-your-rights workshops and other informational events to educate immigrant communities about immigration issues.
  • Support MRNY members and organizing campaigns through strategic litigation, legislative advocacy, and research.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of the Legal Department's goals and objectives.

Requirements

  • Eligibility to work in the US.
  • Law degree (J.D.) and license to practice law in New York State.
  • At least 5 years of experience in immigration law.
  • Strong managerial, organizational, writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of immigration law and removal defense litigation is preferred.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient Spanish language skills.
  • Experience working with populations that make up major portions of MRNY's membership is a plus.

Benefits

MRNY offers a competitive salary range of $84,587.43 to $105,525.74, as well as a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, 401K, and generous paid time off.
