The City of Dover is looking for a dedicated individual to undertake routine cleaning and general upkeep within and around the municipal facility.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (The following tasks are considered essential to this role):
- Ensures the cleanliness and appearance of floors and carpets through sweeping, vacuuming, washing, and waxing as necessary or directed by the supervisor.
- Disposes of waste from trash receptacles in and around assigned buildings and transports it to designated disposal areas.
- Maintains sanitary conditions and supplies in restrooms.
- Ensures the cleanliness of office and public spaces by dusting and cleaning desks, tables, countertops, walls, glass, and mirror surfaces.
- Clears dirt, debris, snow, and ice from walkways surrounding assigned buildings.
- Performs minor carpentry, electrical, and plumbing repairs.
- Prepares and paints floors, walls, and building fixtures.
- Monitors the condition of buildings and equipment, notifying the supervisor of any maintenance needs or issues.
- Conducts preventive maintenance and minor repairs on heating, ventilation, and other systems.
- Keeps records related to inspections, tests, repairs, and the cleaning and maintenance of assigned buildings.
- Ensures security by monitoring and controlling access to buildings according to established policies.
- Maintains an inventory of supplies, requisitioning replacements and new items as necessary.
- Operates and maintains building illumination and safety equipment.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding activities and individuals encountered during work assignments.
- Assists with other public works operations and projects, including responding to various emergencies and performing general facility maintenance.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with colleagues, other departments, and the public.
- Familiarizes with and adheres to safe work procedures related to assigned tasks.
- Performs additional related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Familiarity with methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial and grounds maintenance work. Understanding of general building repair and facility maintenance practices. Ability to follow both written and verbal instructions. Physical capability and stamina to perform required tasks. Competence in completing necessary forms and maintaining accurate records. Ability to foster effective working relationships with colleagues, other agencies, and the public.
EDUCATION/LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required. A valid motor vehicle operator license must be maintained.
