Key Responsibilities
  • Collect specimens according to established procedures, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and patients, explaining the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection methods.
  • Dispose of biohazard materials and contaminated sharps in accordance with applicable laws and policies.
  • Enter patient and specimen information into the computer system, maintaining attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Research test and client information using the lab computer system.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, labeling and processing specimens as required.
  • Package specimens for transport, storing samples according to required temperature and protocols.
  • Maintain daily records and logs, assisting with compilation of monthly statistics and data.
  • Perform basic clerical duties, including filing, faxing, and preparing mail.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Phlebotomist Certification preferred (required in Louisiana).
  • Prior job-related experience preferred.
