Job Summary:
The City of Pittsburgh is seeking a highly skilled Building Inspector to join our team in the Permits, Licenses, and Inspections department. As a Building Inspector, you will be responsible for ensuring that construction projects in the city meet the necessary building codes and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect buildings and construction sites to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations.
- Conduct thorough inspections of new construction, renovations, and repairs to ensure that workmanship and safety standards are met.
- Issue letters of violation and revoke building permits as necessary.
- Prepare reports on inspections and activities.
- Canvass assigned areas to identify Uniform Construction Code (UCC) and Pittsburgh Zoning Code violations.
- Evaluate construction plans and specifications for conformance with city codes.
- Testify in court as a witness.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Two years of full-time experience in the building trades, ensuring that construction conforms to building plans, codes, and regulations.
- Residential Building Inspection certification within six months of appointment.
- Residential Energy Inspector certifications within nine months of appointment.
- Residential Mechanical Inspections certifications within eighteen months of appointment.
- Current, valid Class C Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
