Key Responsibilities of the Specialty Pharmacy Technician:
- Prepare and dispense medications as instructed by the Director of Pharmacy Operations or Pharmacists; ensure prescriptions are accurate and appropriate.
- Complete necessary patient documentation and authorizations, including insurance coverage approvals; manage appeals as needed.
- Adhere to procedures for handling, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals to maintain quality and compliance under the guidance of the Director of Pharmacy Operations or Pharmacists.
- Manage inventory by ordering supplies and medications, receiving shipments, and conducting routine checks using Nucleus.
- Maintain cleanliness of the dispensing area and equipment in accordance with PMG's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Assist patients with enrollment in assistance programs, foundations, copay cards, and vouchers.
- Analyze insurance coverage discrepancies between Medical and Pharmacy benefits for financial assessment.
- Utilize Point of Sale (POS) systems for processing patient prescriptions and obtaining necessary signatures, including payment processing and reconciliation.
- Reconcile specialty medications with Nucleus patient medication reports.
- Communicate with physicians regarding prescription approvals and updates.
- Guide patients in selecting the best coverage options for their prescriptions to ensure optimal care.
- Follow up with patients regarding prescription status and collection.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications for the Specialty Pharmacy Technician:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Completion of an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program.
- Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the New Jersey Board of Pharmacy.
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) credential from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).
- A minimum of 2 years of experience as a pharmacy technician, with a preference for specialty pharmacy experience (oncology).
Work Schedule:
- Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM; flexibility required as schedules may vary.
- Overtime may be necessary.
