Job Summary

As a Medical Laboratory Specialist at MUSC Health & Medical University of SC, you will play a critical role in supporting high-quality laboratory testing. Your responsibilities will include preparing specimens for testing, performing routine laboratory tests, and recognizing normal and abnormal laboratory values. You will also be responsible for communicating technical testing information to medical and lay persons, as well as participating in continuing education and quality control activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepares specimens for testing and performs routine laboratory tests
  • Recognizes normal and abnormal laboratory values and communicates technical testing information to medical and lay persons
  • Participates in continuing education and quality control activities
  • Performs quality control testing, instrument maintenance, and competency-related activities
  • Actively participates in a setting conducive to teaching health care practitioners in Laboratory Services

Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or relevant medical or scientific discipline
  • Primary source verification of successful completion of degree required
  • Certification must be obtained within the first year of employment
