Job Overview:
The Student Health Care Center (SHCC) at UF Health Shands is in search of a committed Registered Nurse I to enhance our healthcare team.
In this capacity, you will provide patient care adhering to RN License standards across diverse primary care teams and specialty clinics, which encompass Women's Health, Sports Medicine, Acute Care, Immunization Clinic, and Psychiatry.
Your duties will involve executing treatments and procedures, triaging patients, conducting nurse visits, administering medications, screening and advising patients, and collecting vital signs and point-of-care testing as instructed by healthcare providers.
Additionally, you will deliver independent patient care following established protocols and standing orders while collaborating with providers to coordinate clinical activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver RN support for various Primary Care and Specialty teams within Student Health.
- Facilitate prescription refills in partnership with assigned clinic providers.
- Assist with medication pre-authorizations and manage patient inquiries regarding medications.
- Guide patients through laboratory referrals and results.
- Maintain current knowledge of clinical nursing practices, including emergency procedures and equipment.
- Conduct nurse visits and consider safety, effectiveness, and cost in patient care planning.
- Monitor patient responses to treatments and administer medications as directed.
Clinical Duties and Patient Triage:
- Assess patients' vital signs and provide education on health maintenance and preventive care.
- Initiate IVs, perform wound care, and administer medications.
- Screen and counsel patients, collecting visual acuity when necessary.
- Conduct point-of-care testing and facilitate timely patient flow to providers.
- Support specialized patient populations, including those with mental health concerns.
- Triage a high volume of patients both via telephone and in person.
- Review intake records and collaborate with clinical providers on high-risk patients.
- Ensure patient compliance with care and follow-up through effective communication.
Education, Counseling, and Referrals:
- Assist with referrals from various clinics and community services.
- Maintain patient contact to confirm receipt of services.
- Contribute to departmental goals for non-discrimination and a multicultural environment.
- Educate and counsel patients regarding their medical conditions.
- Promote health and wellness through ongoing education and counseling.
- Document all interventions in the patient's health record.
Coordination of Services:
- Coordinate services within your team, consulting with providers regarding psychiatric services.
- Attend team meetings and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, 40 hours/week. Flexibility in hours may be required based on operational needs.
Salary:
The starting salary ranges from $28.00 to $31.00 per hour, depending on experience.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduate of a nationally accredited nursing program and licensed as a registered nurse.
- High School diploma.
- Current CPR certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program with a BSN or ASN degree.
- Two years of relevant nursing experience.
- Proficient in electronic health records and Microsoft Office applications.
- Effective communication skills with patients and healthcare teams.
