Paralegal Position in Public Defense

We are seeking a highly skilled Paralegal to join our team at the State of Colorado. As a Paralegal, you will play a critical role in supporting our defense team by managing and organizing discovery, converting electronic files, and creating trial notebooks.
Key Responsibilities- Manage and organize discovery, including converting electronic files to PDF and other formats
- Create trial notebooks, digital bookmarks, and indexes for easy reference and access by the defense team
- Review and summarize discovery, videos, and witness interviews, identifying matters of significance and bringing them to the attention of the defense team
- Request and review client records, court records, and transcripts to complete case files
- Research legal issues, including searching and reviewing statutes, case law, and legal articles for legal precedent, mitigation, and sentencing considerations
- Assist attorneys in identifying potential conflicts of interest and searching case-related information
- Keep attorneys and defense teams updated as new information is added to case files
- Draft routine and standard motions, briefs, and legal memoranda, proofreading and editing motions prepared by attorneys
- File pleadings and motions, redacting documents as necessary
- Track and monitor case status and critical timelines on assigned cases to ensure court filings are processed in accordance with established criminal procedures, rules, and laws
- Paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved paralegal studies program or accredited institution
- One year of a combination of education, training, or experience performing legal support functions, including organizing and preparing large legal case files, legal research, preparing drafts of legal documents, and compiling and analyzing records and data from legal sources
- Preferred qualifications include a bachelor's degree in paralegal studies or a related field, experience conducting legal research, working with large case files, and in a public defender system
